Let there be darkness so I might sleep
beneath the dead distant stars, their slow light
navigating this leaking wreck
so I might believe in solid ground.
Let there be land at dawn so I might love
the rot and lay upon it.
Let there be.
Let there be.

ReplyDeleteThe search for comfort, love, and peace—expressed wonderfully with melodic refrain.

ReplyDeleteGreat 55. Not sure about refuge in the rot, but I love the leaking light showing the solid ground.
ReplyDeletewoohoo look who is rocking the 55s...may you find your refuge...love the imagery...the dead sky stars piercing the wreck...hope in the rot of land...but there is more beneath this...the feelings...but mayyou find it...
ReplyDeletebrino says "may your stars twinkle like glittery awards, even if they are dead"...lol
Raising the bar--we live for it. This is dense with a sombre yearning, the refrain a rocking of the fretful child heart. Beautiful and a bit eerie. Glad you could make it--I find 55 words a real challenge, but it also makes a great crucible, as you show us here, for boiling things down to their essence.
ReplyDeleteGood to meet you and experience your poetry.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading this aloud...let...there...be...something, anything right now! Wah, was needing this...feeling absolutely spent. Even my quiet space is crowed with ghosts....
ReplyDeleteoh yes, this expresses right where i am these days. a bit of refuge and solace and quiet in the dark.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Ami. I had to re-read it just to savor it.
Inherent yearning, excellent display of urgent brevity.
